Blessing of the Backpacks (outdoors)

Each year as school is about to begin, we have a Blessing of the Backpacks during worship to pray especially for the upcoming school year, students, families, educators, and staff.  Everyone is invite to bring what they carry during the day – backpacks, briefcases, or any kind of bag – and we pile them up near the communion table. We pray for those who will carry them, and for all of the places and circumstances they will encounter in the coming year, affirming that God and God’s love go with us into each one of our days.

This year, we are taking our annual Blessing of the Backpacks outside, and giving it a drive-thru format. Here’s how it will work:

For all who would like to receive a backpack/briefcase/bag tag, you will drive into the north entrance of the church parking lot, circle around the back of the church, and drive up under the south portico.

Without leaving your car, you will receive your tag(s), and Pastor Katie and Pastor Georgia will be there to say a blessing.
